FEATURE WEDDING: Paul and Michael

When a love story has been 28 years in the making, you know it’s truly something special. For Paul, Michael and their family and friends, it was nothing short of a dream come true.

It all started at a mutual friend’s dinner party in 1989. The two clapped eyes on each other and had an instant connection. Their first date was on New Years Eve later that year, and the rest as they say, is history.

A huge 27 years later, having built a life together, the pair were finally able to do what they’d always wanted and officially get married. So, knowing how special and important the moment had to be, Michael proposed to Paul in the most romantic way possible. On the last day of a holiday in Paris, Michael dropped the knee on top of the Eiffel Tower and asked Paul to marry him. “There were tears, and Paul eventually said yes.”

Planning the big day was a lot smoother and more enjoyable than the pair had originally thought. Their advice to other couples going through the process is to look for a real connection with your suppliers. “If you don’t click/have an instant connection with someone, be it a celebrant, cake supplier, photographer etc, don’t settle. Look for someone you genuinely have an instant “gut” feeling about; someone that makes you think ‘this is the right person for us.'” Ultimately, they believe that this strategy helped them have more fun while planning everything, and kept the whole experience stress-free. “Planning doesn’t have to be daunting… we loved it!”

The couple said the best moment of the day was finally being able to say “I do” in front of their family and friends at sunset on the River Terrace overlooking the Yarra River. “They all went through this long journey with us and the love we felt from all of them on the day was the best feeling. We’d been waiting for 28 years and it was a very emotional day.”

And what about the reception, and the celebration they’d been waiting all those years for? “Walking into the reception, we realized this was going to be a hell of a party… which it ended up being!” The couple danced the night away, and the smiles simply never stopped.

On choosing to hold their big day at Fenix Events, the pair said: “The River Terrace looked just AMAZING! Everything went as we had planned and hoped for, if not better. The service we received on the day, it completely surpassed what we were hoping for, everyone at Fenix was incredible!”

At the end of it all, when reflecting on their wedding, the couple had a word of advice for those getting married themselves: “If you want to get the maximum WOW factor from your guests, spend a little extra if you can afford it. It’s the biggest day of your life – you won’t be disappointed.”
